At Freegrounds Infant School we believe that art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. Our Art curriculum aims to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Our integrated curriculum allows children to develop the skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques whilst at the same time exploring and evaluating the works of great artists, craft makes and designers of both the past and present.
Teaching and Learning
- EYFS
- In EYFS, Art and Design is embedded across our curriculum with a wide variety of opportunities provided by our experienced Early Years practitioners.
- The children constantly have access to resources and environments both indoors and outside, in which to explore media and materials and express their creative skills whilst being imaginative.
- You will often find the children during our independent child initiated play (Discovery Time) drawing, painting and creating.
- KS1
- In Key Stage One Art and Design is taught throught both through integrated projects and as a stand alone subject.
- We use a variety of teaching techniques to ensure our children learn about a range of contemporary and historical artists, crafts people and designers.
- We aim to equip pupils with the skills to draw, paint and create sculpture whilst developing techniques including colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
- We believe it is important that our children are taught the skills and concepts of Art and Design to enable them to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
- Our children are also provided with rich opportunities to use Art and Design to make links to other subjects.
